An Electrical Installation Certificate is required for:
1 – new installations
2 – additions to an existing installations
3 – alterations to an existing installation
4- changing of a consumer unit.
These certificates simplify the paper work by including a schedule of inspection and a Schedule of Test Results on the same document. Without these two documents, the Electrical Installation Certificate is not valid. This certificate must not be issued until the installation complies with BS 7671. An inspection and test which is carried out on a new installation to prove compliance is called an initial verification.
